Because healing doesn’t only happen behind closed doors.

There is only 1 of me (ok I lied, I have a twin, but he’s not a therapist), and there is only so much of an impact I can make in the world through 1:1 counselling.

That’s why a big focus of mine is community work also. A lot of struggles we experience and work on in therapy could have been avoided or prevented if someone just knew better. I enjoy creating and leading workshops because I believe it is preventative work.

Most of us are not given a parenting handbook, or spousal training 101, or guidance on navigating conflicts in relationships. But this can and should be taught.

Beyond therapy, my background has been in community work, including Muslim youth groups, MSA, summer camps, working in the charity sector, managing volunteer teams, creating workshops, leading trainings, building culture, and storytelling.

Little Hearts, Big Feelings

Focused on helping students understand where emotions can show up in our body (ie. anger in jaw, anxiety in stomach, sadness in eyes).

A big part of the workshop is also on calming ourselves when emotions get heightened (ie. breathing exercises, using our senses, muscle relaxation). This is a 60min workshop for children 6+.

Navigating Difficult Conversations

Focused on teaching participants how to navigate tough conversations with friends and/or family. We go over a case study of 2 best friends who get into a conflict. The group gets split into 2 teams and we prepare to have a conversation about our feelings to repair the friendship through role play.

We identify feelings in the case study, learn how to express ourselves without attacking, learn to apologize sincerely and take accountability, and then role-play the conversation in real time with feedback.

This is a 1.5-2hr workshop. This workshop can be run for adults, teenagers, and I have also done it for groups of boys & dads together as a means to improve their relationship.
